Part 1: Recover Text Messages, SMS, Contacts, Emails, etc. directly from iPhone 4S and iPhone 5

Step 1 Connect your iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 with your computer

Connect your iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 with your computer with data cable, and then launch Wondershare Dr.Fone. The interface is as below.

Step 2 Choose “Recover from iOS Device” mode

Dr.Fone will display device model here. Click “Start” to start analyzing your iPhone 4S or iPhone 5.

The analyzing time depends on the data amount inside iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S. Wait for the end of device analysis.

Step 3 Scanning data of your iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S

When the analysis completes in Step 2, Dr.Fone will automatically scan your iPhone 4S or iPhone 5.

Step 4 Preview found data and recover files selectively

After the scan, all found contents in your iPhone 4S/iPhone 5 will be listed in categories on the left of the program interface, including “Contacts”, “Messages”, “Notes”, “Call History”, “Safari Bookmarks”, “Reminders”, etc.

Click on the category name and view the contents under that category. Select the files you want to retrieve. Then click on “Recover” button to save them on your computer.

Part 2: Restore Text Messages, SMS, Contacts, Emails, etc. Directly from iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4

Step 1 Connect your iPhone 4/iPhone 3GS to computer

Connect your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS to computer with a digital cable. Launch Dr.Fone, then you’ll get the interface below.

Step 2 Enter DFU mode to scan your device

Follow the steps below to get into DFU mode before scanning iPhone 4/iPhone 3GS for lost data.

  1. Hold your device and click “Start” button in the interface of Dr.Fone.
  2. Hold “Power” and “Home” buttons on your device at the same time for exact 10 seconds. Dr.Fone will count time for you. Just hold the two buttons immediately after step 1.
  3. When 10 seconds passed, release the “Power” button right away, but keep holding the “Home” button. After another 10 seconds, you’ll be informed that you’ve successfully entered the DFU mode and you can release the “Home” button now.
  4. Then the software begins scanning your device automatically for lost data, and you’ll get the interface as follow.

Step 3 Preview and selectively recover data

After the scan, all found contents in your iPhone 4S/iPhone 5 will be listed in categories on the left of the program interface, including “Contacts”, “Messages”, “Notes”, “Call History”, “Safari Bookmarks”, “Reminders”, etc.

Click on the category name and view the contents under that category. Select the files you want to retrieve. Then click on “Recover” button to save them on your computer.

To recover all of the content, mark them all and click “Recover” to save them on your computer with one click.

If you only want to recover deleted data, you can refine the scan result by sliding the button in the red area on the interface above, only displaying the deleted items. Mark them and press “Recover” button to get them back.

Part 3: Recover Text Messages, SMS, Contacts, Emails, etc. from iTunes Backup for iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS

Step 1 Select iTunes backup file to scan

Launch Dr.Fone. Switch to “Recover from iTunes Backup File”.

All the iTunes backup files of iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS, iPad or iPod touch which has ever synced with iTunes on this computer will be automatically found and listed. Select the wanted device and click “Start Scan” to begin iTunes backup extracting.

Step 2 Preview and recover previous data

After the scan, all found contents in your iPhone 4S/iPhone 5 will be listed in categories on the left of the program interface, including “Contacts”, “Messages”, “Notes”, “Call History”, “Safari Bookmarks”, “Reminders”, etc.

Click on the category name and view the contents under that category. Select the files you want to retrieve. Then click on “Recover” button to save them on your computer.

Note: Don’t sync your device with iTunes when you realize that you’ve lost data, or the iTunes backup file will be updated after the sync.
