Many Mac users just lay their hope on the latest Mac system, OS X 10.9 Mavericks since Tim Cook annoused that the newest Mac system would launch in Fall. However, after the beta testing of Mac OS X Mavericks, it is found that AC3 is still not a native supported audio codec.

Tricks to get AC3 supported by Mavericks
- Download and install Perian on OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
- Donwnload the a52codec.component
- Unzip A52Codec
Unzip it. It should replace the one in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components or ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components (the Library folder in your Home folder). You can simply press Command+Shift+G and type in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components to locate Components folder to replace.
- Select “multi-channel output” in perian preferences.
If you wish play MKV AC3, MKV DTS, MKV FLAC or AVI AC3 in 5.1 surround sound on OS X Mavericks, you will need to convert MKV or AVI to MP4 AC3 5.1 or MP4 AAC 5.1 by some professional tool.
