Micrsoft has made an important step to support the playback of MPEG-4 on Windows 8 RT and Windows 8 Pro. Windows RT has excellent support for MPEG-4, most typically comprised of H.264 video and AAC audio. Fragmented MPEG-4 and 2K/4K resolutions are also possible to playback on Windows RT. However, there is still limitation in playback of video in many formats. Windows RT still cannot play VOB, MKV, AVCHD MTS,FLV, RM, RMVB on Windows RT. And any device that run under Windows RT including Surface RT won’t support playback of VOB, MKV, AVCHD MTS,FLV, RM, RMVB either.
Since VOB, MKV, AVCHD MTS,FLV, RM, RMVB, etc are also not supported by Windows 8 Metro style app, to play these video formats, we will need to convert them to WMV for play in Windows Media Player on Windows RT devices (Such as Surface RT) or convert these video formats to H.264 MP4 to play in Windows Media Center or other Metro Style app on on Windows RT devices (Such as Surface RT).
Windows RT supports playback video up to 1280*720p. This article will guide you step-by-step to convert VOB, MKV, AVCHD MTS,FLV, RM, RMVB to Windows RT compatible WMV, HD WMV in 720, MP4, HD MP4 in 720 to play on Windows RT device Surface RT.
