Easy Guide to Convert and Play MP4, MP4 HD, AVI, AVI HD, DivX/XviD AVI, WMV, HD WMV on Samsung Galaxy S5.

As we all know, Samsung Galaxy S5 is supposed to support video playback in the format of MP4, WMV, AVI. However, many Galaxy S5 users still have problems of playing some of their files in the extension of .mp4, .avi, .wmv? It’s true that Samsung Galaxy S5 supports video format of MP4, AVI, WMV, but video files shall be coded with the supported video codec. Supported MP4 files shall be coded in H.263, H.264(AVC), MPEG4 and supported WMV files shall be coded in VC-1, WMV7, WMV8, VP8. If MP4, WMV or AVI files are coded in the codecs which are unsupported by Galaxy S5, your Galaxy S5 will refuse to play.

Windows Media Center or WMV is the Microsoft’ solution for Live TV as well as a media player for music and videos. Windows Media Center is a default installation in various versions of Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate, and all editions of Windows 7 except for Starter and Home Basic. It is also available for Windows 8 Pro as an add-on.

As a media video player, Windows Media Center can play many different video types including:

  • Windows Media files in the extension of .wm, .wmv, and .asf;
  • AVCHD files (including Dolby Digital audio) in the extension of .m2ts and .m2t;
  • Apple QuickTime files in the extension of .mov and .qt;
  • AVI files in the extension of.avi;
  • Windows Recorded TV Show files in the extension of .wtv and .dvr-ms;
  • MPEG-4 movie files in the extension of.mp4, .mov, and .m4v;
  • MPEG-2 movie files in the extension of.mpeg, .mpg, .mpe, .m1v, .mp2, .mpv2, .mod, and .vob;
  • MPEG-1 movie files in the extension of .m1v;
  • Motion JPEG files in the extension of .avi and .mov.

Still, there are some video types that Windows Media Center cannot play, such as video MKV, FLV, 3GP, MTS, MXF, F4V, SWF, RMVB, WebM, DV, DAV. Even the formats claimed to support, Windows Media Center cannot play some MP4, AVI, WMV, MOV, M4V video files.
